Melissa Stone
An outdoor girl from the start, Melissa spent her first years in Florida barefoot and shirtless netting tadpoles in sandy streams. Weekends and vacations her family escaped to the Keys or Bahamas for snorkeling, fishing, and far too many sardines on Ritz crackers. At 22 Melissa moved to Charlotte, NC, to tear up the advertising world. Somewhere around a billion ads, TV spots, radio commercials, awards dinners, and websites later, she decided to marry her writing experience and her passion for travel and the outdoors. Melissa has traveled to a dozen European countries, 20 or so of the United States, and five blissful Caribbean islands. She enjoys kayaking, hiking, sailing, gardening -- anything that quiets the noise of things that don't really matter. Melissa lives with her husband, Gordon Smith, a freelance photographer, and their faithful dog, Jaffa, the amazing Airedale Terrier.
