Rose Marie Cleese

When Rose Marie Cleese was a little girl growing up in San Francisco's Cow Hollow neighborhood, every summer her family would head "up to the Lake." On long weekends, they'd go "up the River." The lake was Lake Tahoe; the river was the Russian River. Who needed more?
As it turns out, this third-generation San Franciscan (with Gold Rush miners on her family tree) did. After college, where she got a BA in advertising, she bopped around Europe for eight months in a Volkswagen Beetle, staying at youth hostels, $5-a-night hotels, Bahnhof missions, and even a field in Morocco. That did it: she was now a lifelong adventurer.
After her first post-college job as a copywriter and travel columnist at Motorland Magazine (member magazine of the Northern California AAA auto club), she headed for Manhattan, where she worked for Skiing Magazine as an assistant editor. She'd still probably be living on West 76th if she hadn't missed backpacking in the Sierra so dang much!
Since leaving the Big Apple to return to the Left Coast, she has been a regional editor for Skiing, a wintersports columnist for the Hearst-era San Francisco Examiner, president of the Northern California/Nevada Ski Media Association (now a branch of NASJA, the North America Ski Journalists Association), and a contributor of travel articles to numerous newspapers and periodicals. (To pay the rent and her daughter's acting coaches, she kept those copy director day jobs going.)
After all of her peregrinating through Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, the Hawaiian islands, and most of North America, Rose Marie is very excited about having the chance to re-explore "the Lake" and "the River" and all those spectacular Northern California points in between!
